Build the brief before comparing machines

Material boundary: Do not laser-process PVC or other chlorine-bearing stock. Thermal decomposition can produce corrosive and hazardous gases. Stop on unknown composition until supplier documentation confirms suitability.

CO2 or fiber is a material trade-off, not a status ladder

CO2 sources commonly suit many organic materials and acrylic cutting; fiber sources commonly suit metal marking and selected thin-metal processes. Coatings, reflectivity, thickness, finish, and required throughput can change the answer. A sample test on the actual stock is the conservative verification path.

Describe the hardest representative part

Include the material record, geometry, finish target, and batch pattern. A difficult real part exposes more useful constraints than a generic demonstration sample.
